Churros
Crispy, cinnamon-dusted fried dough sticks served with thick hot chocolate. Nira had these for breakfast at a churrerΓa in Madrid!

Ingredients
The Churros
1
1 cup water
2
1 cup plain flour
3
Pinch of salt
4
1 tsp sugar
5
1 tbsp vegetable oil
6
Oil for frying (ask a grown-up!)
To Finish
1
3 tbsp caster sugar
2
1 tsp cinnamon
3
100g dark chocolate, chopped
4
100ml double cream or whole milk
How to Make It
1
Make the dough. Bring water, salt, sugar and oil to a boil. Remove from heat and immediately stir in flour until a smooth ball of dough forms. Cool for 5 minutes.
2
Fill the piping bag. Spoon the dough into a piping bag fitted with a large star nozzle. It should be warm but not burning.
3
Make the dipping sauce. Heat cream until steaming, pour over chopped chocolate. Stir until smooth. Set aside.
4
Fry with a grown-up. Ask a grown-up to heat oil to 180Β°C. Pipe 10β15cm lengths into the oil β snip with scissors. Fry 2β3 minutes until deep golden.
5
Drain & coat. Remove with tongs and drain on paper towels. Mix caster sugar and cinnamon. Roll warm churros in the cinnamon sugar immediately.
6
Dip & enjoy!. Serve hot churros alongside the warm chocolate dipping sauce. Dip generously β that's the only way!
Nira's Fun Fact
Spanish shepherds are said to have invented churros because they couldn't get to bakeries in the mountains. The dough is simple to make over a fire! Today, churros con chocolate is a classic Spanish breakfast β yes, fried dough dipped in chocolate for breakfast!
